The 115th running of the Irish Derby was held on Saturday 28th June 1980 over 1 mile 4 furlongs of The Curragh. Subscriptions were £1850 with a pot of £50,000 added. The winner was owned and bred by Mr George L Cambanis, trained by Bruce Hobbs at Newmarket and ridden by Tony Murray. The winner won by 1 1/2 lengths in 2 minutes 43.8 seconds on yielding going, with 2 1/2 lengths between second and third. |
